The Challenge
Our Take
The cover is built on kintsugi — the Japanese practice of repairing broken pottery with gold, treating the fracture itself as part of the object’s history rather than something to hide. A heart, cast as ceramic, is shattered and rejoined in gold seams, with the clockwork mechanism that drives it exposed at its center: part heartbeat, part ticking bomb — love read simultaneously as a sustaining rhythm and a countdown.
Inside the vessel sits a candle, a direct reference to Vinicius de Moraes’s Soneto de Fidelidade: “Que não seja imortal, posto que é chama / Mas que seja infinito enquanto dure” — “Let it not be immortal, since it is flame / But let it be infinite while it lasts.” The flame doesn’t promise forever; it promises completeness for as long as it burns.
The surrounding visual system carries the same idea further. A diving bell appears through the packaging — survival sometimes means descending into your own depths rather than staying on the surface. And the labyrinth worked into the CD’s interior art isn’t a map of love itself, but of the problems that live inside it: finding meaning in the maze love creates, not in love as a destination.
New tools:
The heart was sculpted as a 3D base mesh and composited with hand-painted digital illustration, blending dimensional form with traditional cover-art painting.
